Summer started almost 3 weeks ago and I’ve only read 5 books… It was disappointing in my side because I usually read more than that and well, I’m not used to going for a long time without a new book to read. So when I went to my friend’s house 3 days ago, I asked if I can borrow a book because I was about to die because of boredom. The Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter is the book she handed to me! We both have this fascination with Greek mythology so I totally got why she made me read this.
When I got home, I started to read it. At first I thought this will be another love story with a mix of Greek mythology…. and well, I was right. But not in the “another love story” part. The Goddess Interrupted took a new turn in Greek mythology. It wasn’t your typical Greek mythology book because first of all, the gods and goddesses does not go by their Greek or Roman names. It is also set in Eden in Michigan (SPOILERS!) it does not exist by the way (SPOILERS!) definitely not your typical book either cause most of the books out there is set in New York or some other bigger city.
This book is about Hades (drop-dead gorgeous Henry), looking for a new “wife” because Persephone left him. Eleven girls tried to take the test already but if they didn’t fail, they were murdered by someone in the manor. Kate is the twelfth and is the last hope of Henry and if she still fails, Henry will ‘fade’ (that’s like dying for the gods). Kate has to pass 7 tests in order to pass, and by passing that means she will become immortal and be the wife of Henry. Honestly, I found Kate weird…. If she thought the Eden Manor and everything Henry was saying wasn’t true, then I don’t understand why she still went there and agreed to stay for 6 whole months…. although eventually she started to believe because Henry was able to keep his side of the bargain. I commend Aimee Carter for not writing “another love story” because of all the twists and turns in The Goddess Interrupted.
I would recommend this book to those people who likes Greek Mythology. Also to those who likes to read unusual love stories.
