Summer started almost 3 weeks ago and I’ve only read 5 books… It was disappointing in my side because I usually read more than that and well, I’m not used to going for a long time without a new book to read. So when I went to my friend’s house 3 days ago, I asked if I can borrow a book because I was about to die because of boredom. The Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter is the book she handed to me! We both have this fascination with Greek mythology so I totally got why she made me read this.

When I got home, I started to read it. At first I thought this will be another love story with a mix of Greek mythology…. and well, I was right. But not in the “another love story” part. The Goddess Interrupted took a new turn in Greek mythology. It wasn’t your typical Greek mythology book because first of all, the gods and goddesses does not go by their Greek or Roman names. It is also set in Eden in Michigan (SPOILERS!) it does not exist by the way (SPOILERS!) definitely not your typical book either cause most of the books out there is set in New York or some other bigger city.

This book is about Hades (drop-dead gorgeous Henry), looking for a new “wife” because Persephone left him. Eleven girls tried to take the test already but if they didn’t fail, they were murdered by someone in the manor. Kate is the twelfth and is the last hope of Henry and if she still fails, Henry will ‘fade’ (that’s like dying for the gods). Kate has to pass 7 tests in order to pass, and by passing that means she will become immortal and be the wife of Henry. Honestly, I found Kate weird…. If she thought the Eden Manor and everything Henry was saying wasn’t true, then I don’t understand why she still went there and agreed to stay for 6 whole months…. although eventually she started to believe because Henry was able to keep his side of the bargain. I commend Aimee Carter for not writing “another love story” because of all the twists and turns in The Goddess Interrupted.

I would recommend this book to those people who likes Greek Mythology. Also to those who likes to read unusual love stories.

Babe In Boyland

When high school junior Natalie – or Dr. Aphrodite, as she calls herself when writing the relationship column for her school paper – is accused of knowing nothing about guys and giving girls bad relationship advice, she decides to investigate what guys really think and want. But the guys in her class won’t give her straight or serious answers. The only solution? Disguising herself as a guy and spending a week at Underwood Academy, the private all-boy boarding school in town. There she learns a lot about guys and girls in ways she never expected – especially when she falls for her dreamy roommate, Emilio. How can she show him she likes him without blowing her cover?

Babe In Boyland by Jody Gehrman is somewhat like She’s The Man. Scratch that, it is She’s The Man with some changes like there’s theatre, Natalie Rowan turned Nat Rodgers only stayed in Underwood Academy, an all-boys school, for a week, and her purpose for staying there is to uncover some of the secrets of the male specie. I guarantee that this book will make you laugh and Natalie (or Nat) will irritate you most of the time.

This book is nice but I must say, Natalie is not really the best character. I got annoyed at her 70% of the time while reading the book because of Natalie. Emilio Cruz though… in my imagination, he is one drop-dead gorgeous Latino who is really sweet and nice and beautiful.

Jody Gehrman made me look at guys in a new way. She was able to show me a new side to guys. I highly recommend this book to those people who enjoyed She’s The Man (the movie) and those shows wherein a girl enters an all-boys school for personal reasons. 🙂

The Summer I Turned Pretty

When I first saw this book in some bookstores a few years back, I wouldn’t even glance at it because the cover didn’t really catch my attention. Then I read the summary, and then I decided that I really wouldn’t read it because I thought it was the typical love story where nothing exciting happens and stuff like that.

But one day, some of my classmates started reading it and I then I asked them what was so interesting about it and they said it was really nice so I decided to give it a try and put it in my book list. And to my surprise, my friend gave me this book earlier as a gift for my 15th birthday! So when I got home earlier, instead of studying for our finals, I decided to read “a few pages”… that “few pages” turned out to be me reading the whole book. I actually finished reading it a few hours ago. I couldn’t put it down. I actually feel restless because I couldn’t wait to read the second book! And to think that I should be studying for our finals tomorrow!

The Summer I Turned Pretty is surely a page-turner. It’s the first book of The Summer Trilogy and it’s already very entertaining. It’s nothing like I expected it to be! Although there was this part where you might be able to predict how the book will end, if you’re a sucker for those love stories with twists and a lot of mood swings (the nice, kind of confusing, mood swings… if you get what I mean) then I highly recommend that you read this book. If you’re into those books about love and life and summer then I recommend that you read this book too.

Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah, and Steven will definitely take you to one summer you won’t forget.

Books, Books, and More Books!!

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

The Fault In Our Stars is the latest creation among John Green’s masterpieces. It’s one of the books that I truly recommend! The main characters, Hazel and Augustus, are ones that you will remember for quite a long time… This is not your typical they-have-cancer-and-someone-is-gonna-die book, (SPOILERS!) I mean sure someone will die in the end (SPOILERS!), but it’s still different…. The Fault In Our Stars is about life, love, death, and people’s struggle with things. I ended up crying in the end, especially the last part… John Green is, by far, one of the best authors in this world. So check this book out! This book might even touch your hearts like it touched mine.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare

I read the Mortal Instruments Trilogy, yes Trilogy, last year and I loved it. Click here for the summary!! And this is what they look like:

When they say “trilogy” it means 3 books and 3 books only but I was genuinely surprised when the fourth book, City of Fallen Angels, came out! I told myself that I wouldn’t read the 4th book because I seriously loved how the third book ended and I didn’t want to ruin it… but eventually I did read the fourth book. It was actually better than I expected. It did end with in a sour note though but the 5th book is coming out this May and I cannot wait! There’s even a 6th book that will come out next year!

Jace, Clary, Alec, Simon, and Isabelle are in for a new and very dangerous adventure and I wasn’t able to put if down. Y’all must read it (but read the first 3 books first haha)!! And (SPOILERS!) Sebastian will return 😦 (SPOILERS!)

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle

This book is great for the holidays. It’s about these people whose lives are actually connected. Three great authors with three different stories. I honestly don’t know how they connected it but in the end everything made sense. Just don’t make the same mistake I did, make sure you read the first story first or else you will spoil the whole book.

Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

My friend recommended this book right after she finished reading it and I tell you, she wouldn’t stop talking about it.

Anna and the French Kiss went beyond my expectations. I downloaded the ebook and I stayed until 2 in the morning just to read it. And now I’ve decided I need a real, physical copy of this book.

The characters are wonderful omg. Even though, in my opinion, Anna is a little cliche, like new-girl-on-the-block- cliche, and so is Etienne St. Clair with his looks and him being French/English/American, it was still a book that is hard to put down especially if you’re a sucker for masochistic, romantic books with a great deal of adventure and the sort.

It’s about this girl who was practically shipped to Paris to study in the School Of America In Paris (SOAP) for her senior year and was forced to leave her life back in Atlanta. There she was miserable, at first, and eventually she meets this guy that changes her life and there will be this major problem but in the end it’s gonna be solved. Sure it sounds like any other romance book (that’s what I thought too) but just give it a chance and read it and you’ll get hooked and you won’t regret it.

Anna and The French Kiss is seriously a page-turner.
